I am sitting here, wondering how to put into words the anger, disappointment, and betrayal I feel from the country I love so much.  It hurts my heart so much to think of how far from grace we have fallen that we would choose to elect someone based on his color, and promise to give everything to those who refuse to work for it.  We, the people, have elected a king (yes, I meant king) who will increase our taxes, decrease our jobs, increase our government, decrease our freedoms, increase our abortion rate, decrease our parental rights, increase our political correctness, and hasten our slide into a Sodom & Gomorrah-type nation.

However, Daniel 2:21 tells us, “And He changeth the times and the seasons:  He removeth kings, and setteth up kings:  He giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding.”  (emphasis mine)

Although, admittedly, the result of this election literally brings me to tears (and I, nor anyone I know, has EVER cried about ANY election result before), we know that God is sovereign and good.  He is in control, whether it appears to our human eyes to be so or not.  God is just, and He is unchanging, and He has a plan for what is taking place right now.  He has heard the pleas of the wicked to elect a king that will “lead” (read: RULE) them – just as He heard the pleas of the Israelites when they asked for a king.  They were given Saul.  God told them (through Samuel) what to expect of a king, yet they begged and pleaded for one anyway.  And a king they got!  They were later blessed with a great and Godly king, David (yes, he messed up too, but even God called him, “a man after His own heart” I Samuel 13:14), but not before the damage was done by Saul.

God is a gentleman.  He doesn’t force us to do anything.  But, He can, will, and does use our disobedience for His purposes.  And, because God is always the same, He will not tell one Christian to vote for one person, and someone else to vote for another.  When we are hearing different things from one God, we need to step back and listen.  Somewhere along the way the message the Lord was sending us got lost in all we heard from humans.  We chose to ignore the Word of God.  God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.  And even in the midst of such a tremendously perilous time in history, God offers us His peace.

Psalm 62 is wonderful.  In going through a great study by Beth Moore, she pointed out some great truths about this Psalm that I would like to pass on to you.  First, read the Psalm below, or in your Bible (I use KJV only).

Truly my soul waiteth upon God:  from him cometh my salvation.

He only is my rock and my salvation;  He is my defense;  I shall not be greatly moved.

How long will ye imagine mischief against a man?  ye shall be slain all of you:  as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.

They only consult to cast him down from his excellency:  they delight in lies:  the bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly.  Selah.

My soul, wait thou only upon God;  for my expectation is from him.

He only is my rock and my salvation:   He is my defense;  I shall not be moved.

In God is my salvation and my glory:  the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

Trust in Him at all times;  ye people, pour out your heart before Him:  God is a refuge for us.  Selah.

Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie:  to be laid in the balance, they are altogether vanity.

Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery:  if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.

Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy:  for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

The second, fifth, and sixth verses contain two words that Ms. Moore wanted us to take notice of:  HE ONLY.  God only.  God alone.  We do NOT put our faith in men.  Regardless of color.  Regardless of political party.  Regardless of policy.  Regardless of title, or electoral votes, or stature, or any other conceivable reason.  We put our faith in GOD ONLY

Isn’t it great to know that God is our refuge?  That He ONLY is our strength, our fortress?  He is our defense!  The God of the universe, the Creator of all living things, the One who was crucified, died, was buried for 3 days and DEFEATED DEATH is my defense!  And yours too!  Everything He does is out of love.  He is Love (I John 4:8).  AND, read I John 4:18:  There is no fear in love;  but perfect love casteth out fear;  because fear hath torment.  He that feareth is not made perfect in love.  God is reminding us through John that within His love, we should have no fear.  He has overcome the world (John 16:33)!  He knows what’s going to happen!  He has it all planned out – and His plans DON’T GET CHANGED!  The battle is won!  Satan has already been defeated – we are simply waiting on the Lord’s perfect timing to seal the deal!

Verse 8 above (Trust in him at all times…) also tells us something else:  pour out your heart before Him.  Have you ever poured out your heart to someone?  Ladies, when we do this, it is generally accompanied by a great flow of tears, or, at the least, an enormous amount of emotion.  Guys, you may be a little different, or, perhaps not.  Either way, pouring out your heart means telling someone everything.  Angry?  Sad?  Disappointed?  Worried?  Despondent?  Happy?  Confused?  Scared?  Tell Him!  Leave NOTHING out.  He already knows anyway.  But if you will only TELL Him, He can take that burden from you.  IF you will lay it at the Throne of Grace, and leave it there.  That’s the hard part….leaving it there after we make the delivery.  We have to be like UPS – deliver the package, get in the truck and drive off.  UPS doesn’t get to your house, give you a package, get your signature, then ask for the package back.  If they did, you would look at them like they were crazy!  And rightly so!  So it is with God.  Give it to Him, your worries, your cares, your fears, your hurts, your anger, then leave it there.  God has very big shoulders.  He can handle it.

Check out the next to last verse of the above Psalm:  “…that power belongeth to God.”  Did you see that when you read it before?  Power belongs to God!  Not to one man…not to one country…not to one nation….not to one political party…not to one president-elect.  To God only.  God doesn’t share His power.  (For that I am SO grateful, aren’t you?)  He gives us the strength we need to accomplish His will, but power is His alone.  Do you know what Jesus told Pilate when He stood before Him waiting to be crucified?  He told Pilate this:  Thou couldest have no power at all against Me, except it were given thee from above:  therefore he that delivered Me unto thee hath the greater sin.  Pilate had no power.  Herod had no power.  The people had no power.  The control Pilate showed against Christ was TEMPORARILY granted to him by the Father.  And, be sure, it isn’t the same kind of power the verse in Psalm 62 is referring to.  God’s power is eternal, wonderful, and perfect.  Man’s imagined power is corrupt, vain, sinful, and completely flawed.

God is in control.  Good to know.  So, what’s next?  Now what do we do, knowing that the person we have just elected as our next President is headed in a direction that so many of us are unwilling to go?

Simply put, we pray.  God’s Word clearly tells us to pray for our leaders (I Timothy 2:1-4).  We pray for Obama.  We pray that God will do a miraculous thing in him, changing his heart to be one that longs for Jesus.  And, we pray that whatever the condition of Obama’s heart, that God will use it to increase and glorify His Kingdom.  Remember, God can, will, and does use our disobedience to accomplish His will.

We pray for all the upcoming battles to be fought, that we will be prepared both physically, and spiritually.  We pray that somehow, someway, God will choose to intervene in such a way as to circumvent any relaxation on abortions, stem cell research, and same-sex marriage.  We pray that as our country becomes more of a socialist nation, that the people will still demand to be heard by our leaders, and will refuse to give in to the pressures of an already-too-big government.  But most of all, we pray that many will come to a saving knowledge of Christ in this time.  Because without that saving knowledge, our prayers are empty words.

What about you?  Have you come to that knowledge?  Have you confessed your sins to Jesus and asked His forgiveness?  Have you repented of those sins?  If you haven’t, I urge you to do it today – NOW!  We are all in a perpetual state of dying – like it or not.  We are growing older, and with age comes the opportunity for more wisdom, but also the certainty of an end.  The kicker is that we don’t know when that end will be.  It could be 10 seconds, minutes, hours, weeks, months, or years from now.  Please don’t wait until the last minute!  God loves you so much – don’t reject Him.  He longs to be your Refuge and Strength, too.  Let Him.

Goodnight and God bless.
